Two kinds of onboarding
What platform onboarding vs feature onboarding means, and how we approach it.
New user
Platform onboarding
"Welcome to iGraal."
The first-run journey. Get a brand-new user to their first transaction.
Owned by Mia / CCE
Live today (onboarding service v1)
VS
Existing, engaged user
Feature onboarding
"Come discover this new feature."
A targeted nudge to people already using us, each time we launch something new. Examples: gift card, ALO.
Owned by the feature's own PM

A takeover promotes the new feature
One tap to explore, or close and carry on
That takeover is feature onboarding. High visibility, always dismissible in one tap. It is the pattern we do not have today (Top-Up Bonus shipped with none: users hit the offer and had no idea what it was).

How do we approach it?
Approach under evaluation
Entry point
Homepage promo, account area, or a login takeover
→
User clicks
Opts in to learn more
→
Feature onboarding
How it works + the instant benefit (e.g. instant cashback)
→
Uses the feature
Buys a gift card, activates ALO
The shared doorwaySame entry-point mechanism for every feature
The room behind itThe walkthrough, built by the feature PM
Entry point only, then the feature PM takes over?
Under evaluation
Think of it as a doorway and a room.
- The doorway (the nudge / entry point) is one shared capability we build once.
- The room (the actual walkthrough) is built and owned by each feature's PM.
One reusable capability, and who curates it?
Under evaluation
- One reusable way to build onboarding, so no team rebuilds it from scratch.
- Each feature PM curates their own onboarding using the shared onboarding approach.
- Who owns and curates the shared capability (TBD): open, to work through with Mia, Thomas, and Anthony.
